Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church
Restoration of Holy Trinity Greek Orhodox Church
In the 1990s, Holy Trinity in Lowell, Massachusetts, was challenged with restoration of their church. Varnish on the murals and icons had discolored, while candle soot had exacerbated the aging paint.
Conrad Schmitt Studios began conservation of the artwork by testing each surface to determine the mildest solvent that would be effective. This approach ensured that the original artwork would be preserved. It was then protected with a non-yellowing, reversible layer of varnish that separated it from the infill painting. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church once again reflects its original glory.
