Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, Milwaukee, WI - Thirty Leptat® etched glass doors have been designed and fabricated for the Mitchell Park Domes. Three beehive-shaped (not geodesic) glass domes, 140 feet in diameter at the base and 85 feet high, offer 15,000 square feet of growing space for plant display. Each dome has a distinct climate to exhibit plants in a naturalistic setting: Arid, Tropical, and Floral Show domes. A set of doors with respective botanical scenes has been created for the entryways and exits of each dome. Leptat® Art Glass is a signature product of CSS which creates a deeply etched, crystalline surface of varied textures. Besides adding interest and beauty to the space, the etched scenes will subtly deter the public from accidentally walking into the previously clear glass doors. "Door to the Domes" sponsorship helped to fund the creation of the doors and gives lasting recognition to all donors.
